Viper Alarm 5806 User's Manual
very good alarm. like the two way feature and long distance from the remote. Defrost feature didn't work without additional relay. I have the safest car in my complex. I wouldn't try any other alarm except maybe an upgraded viper. remote battery last about 2 months. Get a remote case if u get this alarm cause battery case on remote breaks easy.

I have always loved viper alarm remote start systems as this is my third vehicle with one. This new 5701 series is wonderful. I enjoy the fact the responder is two way even though there are still one way devices I like knowing that my vehicle received the commands or didn't for that matter. I don't have the smart start capabilities yet, but am looking into adding it to the vehicle. The only real complaints I have, are that the buttons push to easy while my keys are in my pocket and that for whatever reason when my vehicle is cold it will start for about 30 seconds then turn back off for no reason, but I'm having that looked at this weekend, could just be a glitch. Other then that I love the new features and how well it works, for the most part. Side note I have a 10 second delay because my vehicle is diesel, just enough time for the glow plugs to cycle.
I've been a huge fan of viper and I've always had one on every vehicle I have owned (6 vehicles). I had the viper 5701 with remote start installed in my 2007 dodge ram mega cab truck installed and the features seems the same as the past vipers but my biggest complaint is the remote. The auto start feature one button is horrible, I could have the remote in my pocket and somehow I accidentally start the vehicle. I liked the safety feature in the pass with the 2 button autostart feature, also the batteries on these remotes don't last as long as they say. I've had to replaced my responsders battery almost every 6 weeks. I wished you could lock the keys, I heard you can but it does not state it in the manuel. I think accidentally pushing the buttons drains the battery life quicker. Is there a way of resolving this problem??? Can you guys program an old style remote for my alarm? If they keep this stupid remote design and not improve of it I will never purchase their alarm again.
I bought this alarm for my wife's van last ocober and it was rating us good especially through the long Chicago winters, but after about 4 months or so my 2-way remote started acting up. I took it back to Best Buy and had the problem solved. Up until April everything was back to normal so I just took the van in for a second time and had both remotes replaced and my wife and I are extremely satisfied with this viper. If I were to do it all over again, I would still purchase this unit. Strongly recommend it.
This product is awesome! I've always heard about Viper's reputation but never purchased one. My last car had a Code Alarm (cannot compare to the Viper 5701) but the features were to difficult to remember. I am SO HAPPY with this alarm. The 2-way is great when you do not have a visual of your car, the remote confirms if the car has been started. The range is great, signal goes through walls. I read a review before I bought it about people having problems with the remote buttons being pressed while in a purse or pocket, but the remote can be locked. I couldn't find how to do it in the manual but I called Viper customer service on it and they gave me the code for it. For keypad lock press F for 12 seconds. then when the LED light on top turns red press the unlock button for 1.5 seconds. After that press the lock button and the keypad will light up for a few seconds, leave it alone, when all the lights turn off the keypad is locked. Sounds like a lot but it's really simple. It's a great feature if you just throw your keys in your purse or pocket. To unlock press F then the unlock. I love this product it's great! Better than the rest!! A little pricey but worth every penny! Would recommend to anyone!
With manual vehicles, it is necessary to go through a procedure when stopping the engine and arming the alarm to ensure that it is out of gear. If this is not followed then the remote start will not operate for safety reasons.
